Greenville Zoo finds military doll's owner

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville Zoo said Tuesday evening that they were able to pin down the owner of a missing soldier doll that was left at the Greenville Zoo.

Greenville Zoo's Director Jeff Bullock said the doll was discovered on a shelf in the gift shop. He said the doll, known as a "Military Daddy Doll" may have been lost this weekend.

The doll has a picture along with graphics that say "Operation Military Kids" and "Army Family Covenant," according to Bullock.

Tuesday evening, the Greenville Zoo posted a message on their Facebook page, saying the owner had been located, and that the doll would be mailed out to the owner Wednesday morning.

Operation Military Kids' website features similar looking dolls. The website says Give A Hug dolls  keep, "Deployed loved ones close during deployment. Give a Hug Dolls allow little Heroes to take the Soldier they miss with them wherever they go."

The zoo said Tuesday night that the owner of the doll was on vacation in Greenville when it was lost.

The zoo posted a photo of the doll on its Facebook page stating, "Lost and Found...As you can imagine we get a multitude of items turned in to lost and found and fortunately we are able to reunite the item with their owner, but we felt the need to post this picture of the doll that was left in the gift shop as we felt it must be a special item."

The message on the zoo's Facebook page had over 2,100 shares by Tuesday evening.
