BOILING SPRINGS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg man is accused of vandalizing American flags on Highway 9 in Boiling Springs, according to The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

More than a dozen flags were torn down and ripped from power poles early Wednesday morning, deputies said. According to the deputies report, Jessee Bailey, 20, said he destroyed the flags because he was mad at the world.

Bailey was arrested and charged with malicious injury to personal property, according to deputies.

The flags were installed by the Boiling Springs Fire Department, but are owned by the American Legion.

Sam Cox, of the American Legion, said 21 flags and polls were damaged, at a cost of $50 a set to replace. The damaged flags have been collected and will be retired by the Boy Scouts.

If anyone wants to donate a replacement flag, they can be dropped off at the Boiling Springs Fire Department on Rainbow Lake Road in Boiling Springs. The replacement flags must be 3' by 5', but replacement poles are not needed.
