ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

An Amber Alert was issued for a 16-month-old boy Friday morning after Asheville police said he was abducted by his father but was later found safe, according to the boy's mother.

Jayden Wilson Squire's mother told FOX Carolina that her son was found safe but his father was still on the run. His mother said Asheville police were in the process of bringing the boy back to her but did not release further details about when and where he was found.

According to the cancelled Amber Alert, Jayden was brought in to the Asheville Police department by a relative of Russell Allen Wilson Squire, 25.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons and Asheville police issued the Amber Alert for Jayden. Police said he was last seen wearing a diaper after his father, Russell Squire, took him from the Thunderbird Motel located at 835 Tunnel Rd.

Police said they were called to the hotel at 5:26 p.m. after Jayden's mother reported the abduction and that Russell Squire had strangled her to the point where she lost consciousness before leaving with Jayden.

Russell Squire is a described as a white male, 5' 11" tall weighing 180 pounds, has black hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, pants and white Jordan tennis shoes. He has a tattoo of a cross on his back and his hair is long and in dread locks.

The suspect was last leaving the motel on foot, police said.

If you have any information regarding Russell Squire's whereabouts, call the Asheville Police Department at 828-259-5854 or call 911 or *HP.
