Car crashes on Swamp Rabbit Trail

Posted: Updated:

Cyclists on the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Travelers Rest were surprised to find a car wrecked on the trail Saturday afternoon.

Travelers Rest Police Capt. John Gardner said officers were called around 5 p.m. to the crash. He said the van was traveling north on Main Street, just after the Highway 25 bridge before the Hampton Inn, when it veered left and flipped onto the Swamp Rabbit Trail, which was down a short embankment.

The driver told officers he had been driving for a while and fell asleep as he was on his way to visiting friends.

Gardner said no one witnessed the wreck, but cyclists came upon it and called 911.

The driver was treated for minor scrapes at the scene and was released, said Gardner. He said no medical conditions, drugs or alcohol are considered to be factors.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail was not damaged in the wreck.
