GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Summer is officially upon us and gas prices are down in Greenville and across the nation.

The price of gas fell 3.3 cents per gallon in Greenville over the last week according to the website GasBuddy.com. The national average is down 3.8 cents, according to the website.

The recent drop brought local prices down to an average of $3.15 per gallon, while the national average is down to $3.57 per gallon, according to Gasbuddy.

The price of gas has decreased 9.5 cents per gallon nationally over the last month, but only 3.6 cents in Greenville, according to the website. Greenville's prices are 42 cents per gallon bellow the national average.

"Gasoline prices are certainly a bit wacky right now across the country with prices moving in difference directions, but from what we saw in the last few days with oil prices, I'm hopeful that most areas of the United States will see new or continued relief for at least the first half of this week, with some areas seeing a continued drop for most of this week," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.
