WESTMINSTER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The search for the drowning victim on the Chattooga River entered its seventh day on Wednesday with the man's body still not recovered.

The search has taken its toll on responders, but they remain resolute in their task of recovering the body for the family, according to Michelle Burnett of the U.S. Forest Service.

"Some people have been supporting this effort for more than a week, sometimes as many as 16 hours a day, so of course they're tired," said incident commander Scott Loftis.

"But that doesn't lessen our determination to do the right thing for the family, every day," continued Loftis.

The responders are looking to gather community support by having a prayer vigil for the victim. The event will happen on Thursday night at Long Creek Baptist Church at 7 p.m.

"When a tragedy like this occurs, we all pull together," said Loftis. "It takes us away from our families, but we become our own kind of family. We couldn't do this without each other."

The church is located at 361 Academy Road, Long Creek S.C.
