GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Investigators seized more than $1.4 million after they said a Gaffney couple sold synthetic drugs, including bath salts and spice through two of their businesses.

United States Attorney Bill Nettles said Steven David Petty, 42, and his wife, Sirena Petty, 39, were arrested on Wednesday. The Perrys were indicted on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and distribution of a mixture or substance containing a detectible amount of UR-144 and XLR-11.

Nettles said Jessica Weast, 27, of Ellenboro, NC, was also arrested in North Carolina on Wednesday. He said Weast was a former employee of the Pettys.

Petty's stores, Carousel Music in Gaffney and Smokers Edge in Shelby, NC, were also listed in the indictment.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents served several federal search warrants at the Petty's home in Gaffney, at Carousel Music, Smokers Edge and nine bank accounts associated with the Pettys, resulting in the seizure of more than $600,000, according to Nettles.

He said agents also seized more than $800,000 in cash at the Petty's residence.

During their investigation, Nettles said undercover agents bought synthetic and designer drugs like K2, Spice and bath salts at Smokers Edge.

The investigation and arrests were part of a nation-wide initiative known as "Project Synergy," with more than 300 search warrants and 150 arrest warrants served in recent weeks, Nettles said.

The Perrys case was investigated by the DEA, Cherokee County and Cleveland County sheriff's offices, among other local and federal agencies.
