LONG CREEK, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A prayer vigil was held Thursday for Thomas Hill who died in the Chattooga River 10 days ago,

This comes on the same day recovery crews discovered a new area underneath the rapids where his body may possibly be located, according to Michelle Burnett of the U.S. Forest Service.

The crew has entered its 10th day of the search, but they are hopeful after the new area underneath Sockem-Dog Rapid was found, an area some river guides didn't know existed, said Burnett.

"Lower flows allowed us to search in some areas of Sockem-Dog that we hadn't been able to see with a camera before," said Incident Commander Buck Haney.

"This is a brand new area for the search team to explore so we're going back there with cameras today," said Haney.

Two new search dogs will also join the effort on Friday, according to Burnett.

The U.S. Forest Service is asking all paddlers to take their craft out of the river and walk around Sockem-Dog Rapid today to allow the search crew to work without interruption, Burnett said.
