Storms this evening

Posted: Updated:

As of 3:30pm, you'd probably step outside and say... storms are coming??? It's sunny and clear out there for most areas.  BUT, it's the intense heat that the clear conditions is causing that will fuel storms later this evening.  A cold front is draped across the northern half of our area, and it will act as a trigger for storms.  The storms have already started around Atlanta, and to our north near Raleigh.  There's really no good reason that storms shouldn't begin firing soon, since CAPE is high (instability to fuel storms) and we have a cold front nearby.

Damaging wind and hail will be the primary threats with the storms, and they won't be everywhere.  We'll have scattered convection through 9-10pm, then the storms should slowly die down slowly overnight.

The weekend is looking decent!  Lower storm chances and less hot temperatures expected as we finally get some influence from a cold front.  We'll continue the threat for afternoon and evening storms this weekend, just not as widespread, and even into next week.  It's definitely an unsettled pattern!
