GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Gaffney police hope someone can identify two women they said pepper-sprayed three people while attempting to flee with a cart full of beer from a local Walmart store.

Police said the two women tried to leave the Walmart on West Floyd Baker Boulevard on Wednesday morning without paying for about 15 cases of beer and other items.

The women pepper-sprayed two employees and a customer before fleeing in a burgundy Mercedes, police said.

Gaffney police said they are talking to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office to see if another shoplifting incident at the Woodruff Road Walmart is connected.

In that case, deputies said two people tried to leave the store with several shopping carts full of merchandise and one of the women pepper sprayed an employee before getting away with stereo equipment.

Anyone with information about the shoplifting attempt or who can identify the women is asked to call Gaffney police at 864-489-8115.
