SYLVA, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The torrential rains on Wednesday night caused a landslide in Jackson County, according to authorities.

The landslide happened on Dick's Creek Road, off Highway 74, cutting off 30 homes from the main road. No homes have been reported damaged as of Wednesday night, but authorities said the landslide came close to hitting the houses.

Emergency officials went door to door to advise people about the road being cut off. County officials said the road opened back up about 1 a.m. and no one was evacuated.

They said they will go back out to assess the damage Thursday morning.

No time frame for the road being fixed is set.
