Upstate motorcyclist dies in crash

Posted: Updated:

A Laurens man has died following a motorcycle crash in Greenville County.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Harris Rd.

Barry Wright with the Greenville County Coroner's Office said Michael Yeargin, 48 or Nearnie Rd., was on a motorcycle ride with a friend.

Wright said Yeargin crashed his 2009 Harley Davidson Electro Glide into the back of his friend's motorcycle, causing both bikes to go down.

Yeargin was thrown from the vehicle and hit his head on the pavement, Wright said.

He was not wearing a helmet.

Wright said Yeargin was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Wright said the preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

The death has been ruled accidental.
