Spartanburg police are investigating a shooting at a local apartment complex.

Dispatchers said the shooting happened just before 10 p.m. Monday at the Crown Pointe Apartments on Powell Mill Road.

Police Capt. Art Littlejohn said officers found the 20-year-old male victim shot in the hip and lying in his front doorway.

The victim said he noticed three, red bandana-clad men in the parking lot and a short time later, he heard a knock at the door and when he opened it the same suspects barged in, Littlejohn said.

According to the police report, the victim said the men demanded money when they barged in, he replied "what money," then he struggled with the men and was shot, police said. The victim told police one of the men was armed with a black handgun.

He told police he did not recognize the men. The victim's girlfriend said she hid in the closet where she heard banging around a gunshot.

Police said they found marijuana inside the apartment.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
