Deputies: Elderly woman hit by car during purse snatching

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said they arrested a woman accused of snatching the purse of a 98-year-old woman walking along an Asheville road then hitting her with her car in the getaway.

Buncombe County deputies said the victim was walking along Emma Road at the Fast Break Convenience Store just before 2 p.m. Wednesday when a SUV drove up beside her and yanked her purse away.

Deputies said the victim was walking with the help of a walker and was injured in the robbery. She was taken to Mission Hospital.

The suspect, Dusti M. Smith of O'Donald Road, was arrested at her home and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, deputies said.

Deputies said they had the help of Woodfin police in locating Smith's vehicle.
