Upstate search crews find missing hiker

SALEM, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Emergency officials said a hiker reported missing was found Friday morning.

Scott Krein with the Oconee County Emergency Services said the search was launched after a 45-year-old man was reported missing by his friends on Thursday.

The man showed up where he was supposed to at Table Rock State Park on Friday, just later than expected, tired and weary, Krein said.

A group of emergency responders were looking for the hiker in Oconee County Thursday night but were unable to locate the man.

About two-dozen search team members searched trails, access roads and old logging roads in the Mustard Grounds area within Oconee County, Krein said.

He said the search was called off at 10:30 p.m. because it got too dark and dangerous for search teams.

Pickens and Oconee County search crews were to resume in the Lake Jocassee Foot Hills trail area of Pickens on Friday, Krein said.

Officials said the hiker was on a weeklong hiking trip with friends when he fell behind and got separated from the group.

Officials said the man was last seen on Tuesday, but was only reported missing on Thursday.

The Red Cross provided meals, snacks and beverages to the search and rescue crews, according to Brian Scoles.
