ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

State investigators will look into an early morning shooting in Buncombe County after a deputy fired his gun Monday.

The deputy was responding to a domestic disturbance call along Laurel Loop Road in Fairview about 2:50 a.m. when he was told the suspect had a gun at the residence, according to Natalie Bailey, spokesperson for the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office.

Bailey said while the deputy was walking toward the home he heard a gun go off then the suspect began driving towards him "aggressively."

The deputy ordered the man to stop but he didn't, and as he continued toward him, the deputy shot the man, according to Bailey.

The man was wounded and taken to Mission Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Bailey said.

Bailey said Garrett Dale Hatch, 31, of Fletcher, was charged with one count of driving while impaired and one count of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official. He was released from the hospital then taken to the Buncombe County Detention Center where he was being held on $50,000 bond, Bailey said.

The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate the case and the deputy who was involved was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the SBI's findings, which Bailey said was standard protocol.
