WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Jimmy Whitfield was last seen 26 years ago when he packed his bags with two pairs of blue jeans and a shirt when he left his home that he shared with his wife and children, according to deputy Jimmy Watt of the Oconee County Sheriff's Department.

He called his wife two days after leaving to see how she and their children were doing, said Watt.

He has not been heard from since, Watt said.

Deputies said investigators believe that foul play is involved because Whitfield never called his mother after his disappearance, whom he had a good relationship with.

There are people of interest in the case, but no arrests have been made, said Captain Greg Reed of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.

"Even though this is our older unsolved cases, it is equally important in terms of wanting it solved," said Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. "It is never too late for someone to come forward with information on this case."

Deputies ask anyone with information on the case to call Crime Stoppers at 864-638-STOP, 888-CRIME-SC or text a tip to 274637. A cash reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest in this case, according to investigators.
