Springfield police investigating 12th homicide of the year - FOX Carolina 21

Springfield police are investigating the city's 12th homicide of the year.

A 24-year-old Holyoke man was fatally shot at a bar on State Street early Thursday morning.

"I was just sitting here by the bar observing everybody," said LaDawn Owens. "You know laughing and talking and then shots rang out. It was about maybe five shots or so."

Owens was at Duck's Place when the man who isn't being identified at this time was shot.

"Everybody was running you know trying to get away obviously," said Owens. "You know a bullet doesn't have anybody's name."

Police are searching for suspects and detectives have been interviewing witnesses throughout the day. At this time the motive of the shooting is under investigation.

"Best we have at this time is that it was just an argument that took place," said Springfield Police Officer Charlie Youmans.

Owen's says that this tragedy hits close to home for her.

"I was very devastated because my own son was killed almost eight years ago. And the person that killed my child got off because people didn't come forward," said Owens.

And, that's why she's asking anyone with information to speak up.

"I just hope that everyone that was there who knows anything, who knows who this person is would come forth and tell so that this person doesn't get to be out here free to do this again to someone else's child," said Owens.
