SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A tractor trailer snagged power lines and a power pole in Simpsonville on Thursday.

FOX Carolina crews at the scene said Hedge Street was closed between East College Street and East Curtis Street where the accident happened.

A utility worker at the scene said a truck snagged a communications line while driving along Hedge Street then pulled down more lines and a utility pole.

The utility pole could be seen broken and hanging from the lines.

The utility worker said it would take several hours for them to clear the area and repair the damage.

A Duke Energy spokesperson did not know how many customers were directly affected, but said more than 1,700 were without power in all of Greenville County.

Drivers in the area should expect delays and find an alternate route.
