Missionaries from Maryland arrived in Springfield Wednesday to help out a local church in the Indian Orchard neighborhood.
They arrived to begin construction on a new community kitchen and dining facility for the Greater New Life Christian Center on Worcester Street. Nearly 30 volunteers drove from Maryland to provide the church a new way to help the community.
"Our church, we just really had a heart and mind to listen to the people, get a sense of what were some of the needs and then be able to provide some of those services," said Rev. Brenda L. Lammie, assistant pastor and program director for the New Life Center For Recovery.
Senior pastor, Rev. Morris Stimage-Norwood said the construction work was expected to be completed by Saturday.
