ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man is in jail after Anderson County deputies said he shot and killed his estranged wife, and wounded another man on Friday.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Highway 413 near Hawkins Lane, and as they arrived, they saw a 10-year-old boy running down the road toward them. Capt. Garland Major with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said the boy reported the gunman was still at the home.

They arrived to find a man armed with an AR-15 and were able to detain him, Major said. He said the man, identified as 44-year-old Robert Hurl, tried to resist and flee, but did not get away.

Major said they found the body of Hurl's estranged wife, 42-year-old Brenda Hurl, dead inside. He said she was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

Robert Hurl also shot at two other adults inside the home, hitting one man in his arm and leg, Major said. He was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, Major said.

The woman who was also shot at was found unharmed along with a 15-year-old in a back bedroom, according to deputies.

Major said the home belonged to the home of Robert Hurl's co-worker, who had been shot, and he was staying there as a guest. Major said Brenda Hurl and their son had come over to visit when the shooting took place. Major said the boy was in harm's way during the shooting.

Deputies said Brenda Hurl had obtained an order of protection against Robert Hurl in December 2011, after he was charged with criminal domestic violence against her. She had filed for divorce in January 2012, but the divorce case dropped one month later, according to Major.

Major said Robert Hurl was arrested and charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count each of possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful conduct toward a child.

He is being held at the Anderson County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
