Lincoln County Sheriff's detectives have charged a former Denver and East Lincoln Volunteer firefighter with obtaining property by false pretenses.
Lee Thomas Keever, 36, of, Denver, is charged with two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, according to the news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
Keever turned himself in to detectives at the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning.
Keever is under investigation for the alledged use of fraudulent receipts to gain just under $22,000 from the Denver and East Lincoln Fire Departments. One charge is for $17,819.44 from the East Lincoln Fire Department and the other charge is for $3,934.98 from the Denver Fire Department.
Fire department officials from Denver and East Lincoln Fire Departments reported on July 15, 2013 that a former volunteer member of the two fire departments, who worked on occasion as a paid fire fighter, had allegedly turned in multiple fraudulent invoices for school tuition, classes and equipment purchased for use at the fire departments.
Fire officials say the suspect also presented bills for various services that were not completed. The bogus invoices also included unauthorized credit card purchases at several eastern Lincoln County businesses. Investigating officers are Detectives Mark Stamey and Richard Calhoun and Detective Lt. Tim Johnson.
Keever was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate then processed through the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center.
He was released from custody on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
