Family mourns man killed in golf cart wreck

A Lowcountry family awaits autopsy results after a man was killed early Tuesday morning after a golf cart crash.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said 77-year-old Donald Lorber, of Okatie, was thrown from his golf cart after he hit another car inside the Sun City Hilton Head retirement community.

It has been a tough time for the Lorber family. His youngest son said the crash happened on the same day that Lorber celebrated his 52nd anniversary with his wife.

Many neighbors and friends have dropped off sympathy cards and flowers after learning of his death earlier this week.

There are still unanswered questions surrounding Lorber's death.

His youngest son, Tim Lorber, said he was the by far the best man he knew.

"Not only were people friends of his, he was a friend for everybody, he loved everybody. He was heartfelt. He spoke so highly of everybody. He was just having the time of his life down here," Lorber said.

A memorial service for Lorber will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church in Bluffton.
