GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Maybe you've seen them, masked monsters making their way through Greenville Friday.

They were headed to MonsterCon 2013, a three-day multi-fandom convention. Organizers say the convention is the biggest in South Carolina this year.

At least 4,000 are expected to attend the weekend event on the Furman University Campus, in Timmons Arena.

The event kicked off Friday night and was full of fans dressed in costumes, vendors and celebrities.

Aside from the thousands of people, organizers say this event will draw into Greenville it's also attracted local businesses.

"You can tell as you go around here, it's been a great turnout so far and a positive response in the Upstate and we need it," said Max Parnes, owner of Mad Max's Comics in Spartanburg.

Upstate fans say they've finally gotten what they've always wanted, a con right in Greenville.

"I was very happy it was very close to home, like 20 minutes," said Jonte Spruill. "I didn't have to drive an hour and half away for a convention, I'm happy I'm comfortable."

The event continues Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are still available at the door for $20 Saturday, they will be $10 on Sunday.
