UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Union police say Lonnie Spears intentionally rammed his Chevy pickup truck into a woman who was buckling her toddler into his car seat. Spears was charged with third degree assault and battery in the case.

Reports say the woman was stopped on West Henrietta Street and was blocking traffic while she buckled in her child and that's when Spears pulled up. The woman, who did not want to be identified, said that's when Spears became impatient and rammed her car. "It was road rage. He was cursing. He knew I was on the wrong side of the road so he did it on purpose because he felt it was my fault," the woman said. Police reports say several witnesses confirmed the woman's story.

The woman said police and an ambulance showed up shortly afterward. The woman said her baby was checked out by EMS and was ok.

Spears also talked with Fox Carolina and said there was a wreck but it was caused by the woman he hit. "I got right along here (West Henrietta St.) and she cut across and that's where we hit," said Spears. Spears says a crowd then approached him and even threatened him. "This crowd came up and said I intentionally hit her. They said I backed up, rammed on the gas and hit her. Which I did not."

Spears said he was arrested hours after giving police his side of the story. Both Spears and the woman he hit are due in court on Monday.
