GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate mother appeared in court Tuesday in connection with her son's death, who was crushed to death by a dresser.

Margie Shaver, 27, had a preliminary hearing in Greenville County where the case was sent to the grand jury.

Shaver was arrested days after her son 2-year-old Chandler Shaver's death March 12. She was charged with homicide by child neglect and unlawful neglect of a child.

Greenville County deputies said Shaver kept Chandler and his 4-year-old sister locked in an unsanitary, unsafe bedroom and failed to supervise their activities the night of his death.

Deputies said when the chest of drawers fell on both children, it made a loud enough noise for Shaver to hear, but she failed to do anything to help her child.

Shaver's husband, 30-year-old Christopher Shaver, was also arrested and charged with unlawful neglect of a child. Deputies said he was not at home at the time of his son's death.

The next court appearance for Margie Shaver has not yet been announced.
