LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Allen Belt says he is trying to move forward from Saturday's murder, when a cry for help by his tenant took a turn for the worst.

"I heard yelling and I went to ask if everything was OK. Joanne said no, she needed help. I went across the street to my parents' house and called 911," said homeowner Allen Belt.

"About 16 assorted police units here, and two coroner's units, and an ambulance and a fire truck," said next door neighbor Dennis Clark.

According to Metro's arrest report, when detectives arrived to the home they found 51-year-old Joanne Hafer on the floor appearing lethargic and unresponsive. On the couch was her son Matthew, deceased with a white sheet over him.

"He was 30 years old, and had the mind of a child. He didn't deserve this," added Belt.

Inside the room, detectives also found notes and a nine page letter which read, " You try having a disabled child and one that's a drug addict. My decision to take our lives does not come without a lot of thought and consideration." The letter was signed with the name Joanne.

"Obviously it was well thought and planned out. The only thing that wasn't executed was that she didn't kill herself in the process," added Belt.

In the arrest report, Hafer told detectives she wanted to end her life, but was concerned for her son Matthew, who could not take care of himself because of his seizures. Hafer confessed she overdosed Matthew and herself with medication.

"It's overwhelming, you know, trying to deal with something like this." added Belt.
