SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Spartanburg County man says he doesn't feel safe in his home.
On Tuesday, Bud Smith told FOX Carolina he's been awaken the past couple of days by gunshots in the middle of the night. He filed a complaint with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and deputies are investigating.
He said back in April, someone shot and killed his dog Precious.
"They shot her, shot her in the mouth so she couldn't holler then," Smith said.
He lives in the Camp Croft community and said other neighbors said they've heard gunshots outside of their homes too.
"Just been an ongoing problem that we've had," Smith said."We know one dog was killed with a very large caliber hand pistol and it could go through most houses' walls if it wasn't bricked up."
Smith said he believes a drive-by shooter is targeting people who live in the area, and that's why he's worried about his others dogs.
"We keep them in the house most of the time now, because we're scared to let them out," Smith said. "They came into the yard once before, and boldly shot a dog and they could come into the yard again."
He said he wants to feel safe again at his home.
"You want to feel safe with your belongings, with you abode. We just can't feel safe now," Smith said.
