Divers search for murder weapon connected to Hernandez investigation

BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

Dive teams were back in the water in Bristol Wednesday with the hopes of finding a murder weapon linked to the Aaron Hernandez investigation.

Crews from Connecticut and Massachusetts have been searching Pine Lake in Bristol since Monday.

On Wednesday, two divers spent the whole day under water for more than an hour at a time. Officials said a tip led them to the lake, and crews have been searching for the gun that may have been used to kill Odin Lloyd.

Although Hernandez has been charged in connection to Lloyd's death, he has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

The search has been difficult, as the dive team is working through 54 acres of algae covered water.

Jerry Dube, a Bristol resident, told Eyewitness News that he believes the last time the lake was searched was about ten years ago.

"I think the last time they went in there was when Officer Holcomb was killed," Dube said. "They went looking for a gun in there."

Across the road from Pine Lake, there is another body of water. It is unknown if state police will look there as well.

Officials told Eyewitness News that the crews are expected to search until Friday.
