Ajukwa, Clemson newcomers hope to have impact

CLEMSON, SC (AP) -

Austin Ajukwa sees an opportunity to make a quick impact for Clemson basketball. After early workouts, the 6-foot-5 freshman also sees that he's got a long road ahead to be ready for the Atlantic Coast Conference season.

Ajukwa is one of four freshman Tigers coach Brad Brownell is counting on to pick up for last year's departing seniors in Devin Booker and Milton Jennings, a pair of forwards who combined to average 24 points and 14 rebounds a game last season.

Ajukwa and his teammates are back on campus and practicing as Clemson prepares for a four-game tour of Italy, which they hope will build chemistry for a team expected to struggle in a conference that this year includes new members Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.
