Sinkhole causing issues for Spartanburg road

Posted: Updated:
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg road is closed because of sinkhole in the area, according to transportation officials.

Mike Holden, an engineer for the Department of Transportation, said water is up around a culvert along Vanderbilt Road and is causing a sinkhole.

DOT crews will have to dig out the road and fix it, which could take at least a month, Holden said.

He said the heavy rain this summer led to the flooding out of the culvert.

According to Spartanburg Public Safety, the road is closed at the Bluffs Apartments (Vanderbilt Lane). If drivers are trying to get to the Bluffs from the westside of town they will have to follow the posted detour.
