Justice march held for Anderson nightclub shooting victim

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Anderson security guard charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault following a nightclub shooting is out of jail on bond

The victim's family and friends are not happy with that decision and were moved to stage a march Saturday.

Capt. Garland Major with the sheriff's office said the incident began with a fight outside Marvon's nightclub. The club had hired a private security company, and the armed security team was trying to get people to leave. A security guard saw a vehicle coming toward him and felt threatened, Major said.

Major said the security guard fired at the truck, and the truck then left the parking lot and traveled a short distance down the Highway 28 bypass before crashing into a parked car and a utility pole.

Rescue crews found India Cynthia Lomax, 21, of Anderson dead on the scene of the crash. Lomax had been shot in the torso. A passenger identified as Willis Reginald Donald, 33, was also found with a gunshot wound in the arm, Major said.

Johnson saw a judge for the first time Friday morning after he turned himself in, on Thursday where he was released on bond later in the afternoon.

Dozens of friends and family of India Lomax marched to the Waffle House the truck she was driving crashed at, and called for justice. They held signs that said "Justice for India Lomax" and chanted "No justice, no peace."

The grieving process is just beginning for many of Lomax's family members, including her grandmother Marie Banks, who spoke with FOX Carolina on Saturday.

"She was a very sweet girl and loving momma. I don't know why this had to happen," said Banks.

Ryan Johnson said he was acting in self-defense Saturday night. He said the passenger had a weapon and had threatened to shoot people at the nightclub.
