GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Gas prices are following a slow downward trend in the Upstate and across the country, according to the gas pricing website GasBuddy.com.

Gas prices are averaging $3.20 in Greenville as of Aug. 4, an average of 1.8 cents lower than last week, according to the site.

The national average is following a similar trend, according to the GasBuddy.com, which said the national average fell 1 cent a gallon last week. The drop brought the national average down to $3.63 a gallon, according to the site.

GasBuddy said the price of gas in Greenville on Sunday was 9.9 cents per gallon lower than the same day a year ago, but 14.3 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

"Over the last week, the national average has continued to see a ever so slow downward trend," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

"But the downward trend got a shot in the arm last weekend, as we saw the biggest daily drop since April; from July 25 to July 26, the average dropped 1.5 cents. Back on April 13, the US average dropped 1.7 cents from the previous day. Further illustrating the downward trend, 5 percent of the country was over $4/gal Friday. Last week, 7 percent of the country was over $4/gal," DeHaan said.
