GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County deputies said they are investigating a woman's death Sunday after she was shot and killed during an argument with her boyfriend.

The Greenville County coroner said the victim has been identified as 25-year-old Kristin Collins, of Easley.

Deputies said someone called 911 when they saw a woman with blood covering her arms at an apartment complex at 1114 N. Franklin Rd. about 2:30 a.m.

Master Deputy Jonathan Smith, of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, said deputies found Collins lying on the ground and she had been shot at least once. He said she was taken to the hospital, where she later died. The coroner said Collins died in surgery just after 6 a.m. Saturday.

The family of the victim hopes that she can be remembered in a positive way despite her tragic death.

"I want people to remember how easily she made people laugh, what a good soul she had," said the victim's sister, Megan Collins. "She is always had a great fun personality, she is so much fun to be around."

The victim's father asked the community for prayers for all victims of domestic violence.

Smith said 29-year-old Carlos Toj-De La Cruz, of Greenville, was detained at the complex. He said Cruz got into an altercation with Kristin Collins inside his apartment, leading to the shooting.

Cruz was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was denied bond in court Sunday awaiting another hearing before a circuit court judge.

In court, with the help of a interpreter, Cruz said he didn't have much to say about the shooting because he was drunk at the time it happened and couldn't remember.

The coroner said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

Investigators ask anyone that may have information regarding the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
