ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) -

Crews have started doing nighttime bridge work on Interstate 26 that could close lanes and cause delays.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said the work is being done on the I-26 bridge over I-40 where the two highways intersect with I-240. The DOT says the $3.2 million in repairs are needed to lengthen the life of the bridge.

The work started late Sunday night and should take about a month. The DOT says the work will be done between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. and will involve occasionally shutting down lanes on all three highways.
