BLACKSBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Not long after leaving a local Waffle House, the Cherokee County coroner said a woman eating while driving crashed her car Monday morning and died in the wreck.

Coroner Dennis Fowler said Brittany Smith, 24, was driving her pickup truck along Highway 5 when she wrecked just before 4 a.m.

He said Smith, of Blacksburg, had just picked up takeout from the Waffle House at Interstate 85.

"It appears she was eating while driving and became distracted," Fowler said.

He said Smith drove over the center line, then overcorrected, driving off the right side of the road and an embankment, overturning her truck.

Fowler said no other vehicles were involved in the wreck. He said the wreck was not discovered until 6:35 a.m. when a passerby called 911.
