GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Coroner's Office is investigating a death after they said a man was found dead Wednesday.

The man has been identified as Billy Michael Patterson, 54, according to the Greenville County Coroner Mike Ellis.

Ellis said the incident is being investigated as a suspicious death.

Master Deputy Johnathan Smith said the man was found unresponsive in the backyard of a home on Third Street in the Judson community. A 911 caller attempted to render aid to the man but attempts were unsuccessful, he said.

Fowler said the 54-year-old man was found behind a home by the people who lived there.

Patterson went to the home the night before to visit with residence of the home, Smith said. The residents were taken to the law enforcement center to speak to investigators on Wednesday night, Smith said.

The coroner said Patterson had visual trauma on his body, but it's unclear if it was a contributing factor in the cause of death.

Ellis said an autopsy will be performed Thursday.

Investigators ask anyone who may have information regarding this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
