SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police said they are searching for someone in connection with the fatal assault of a man on Wednesday.

Capt. Regina Nowak with Spartanburg police said the assault took place in the parking lot of the Money Tree Check Cashing store at Pearl and Church streets.

The victim sustained a head injury and died on the way to the hospital, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said.

On Wednesday night, Clevenger identified the victim as 56-year-old Curtis Goldsmith of Woodruff. He said an autopsy was performed and the results are pending microscopic examination.

Nowak said the SWAT team and Spartanburg County deputies were helping search nearby buildings for another person involved in the assault.

She said they were looking for Roderick Wynn, 43, in connection with the assault. He is described as 5'9" tall, weighing 178 pounds, wearing black pants, a blue T-shirt, and a red and black baseball cap.

Police released a photo of Wynn that was taken on Wednesday, but they said he has since shaved off the goatee.

According to Spartanburg County Detention Center records, Wynn was released from jail Wednesday morning following his arrest just after midnight.

According to the police report, Wynn was with a few other people at a motel pool on West Main Street when officers were called there about a disturbance. Police said when they asked Wynn for his name, he gave a fake one and then they learned he was trespassed from that hotel.

Wynn was arrested and charged with trespassing and giving false information to police.
