SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said a speeding driver tried to flee when he saw an officer Thursday morning before crashing into two other cars in Spartanburg.

The crash happened along East Main Street near the Walmart.

Capt. Regina Nowak with Spartanburg police said an officer saw a driver going too fast but did not see the vehicle again until it crashed.

According to the police report, the officers spotted the suspect's car, identified as 2000 Jaguar, and said he noticed the driver try to evade him.

The officer tried to follow after the Jaguar and learned the car's tags and decals were expired, the report said. At one point,  the officer saw the car turn down a dead-end road, the report said.

The report said as the officer entered that same intersection, the Jaguar came towards the patrol car head-on, almost ramming it if the officer had not stopped.

The officer called out on his radio about the near wreck but lost sight of the car, the report said. According to the report, the officer sped up, turned on his blue lights and then came upon the East Main Street wreck.

Police said the Jaguar hit one car that was turning onto East Main Street then hit a second car before coming to a stop. The report said they then learned he had a suspended license.

Two people were taken to the hospital, including the driver. Nowak said he suffered the most injuries.

The report said police planned to charge the driver with aggravated assault on a police officer in addition to reckless driving, driving while suspended, expired tag and decals and driving with no insurance.
