Fountain Inn motorcyclist dies after chase, wreck in Simpsonville

SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Coroner said he is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident in Simpsonville Thursday morning.

The Highway Patrol said the crash happened along Howard Drive, one mile north of Fountain Inn, about 12:25 a.m.

Troopers said the motorcyclist died and the driver of the SUV involved was not injured

Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis said the motorcycle was chased by Fountain Inn police when it hit the SUV. He identified the victim as 21-year-old Zachary Shaver, of Fountain Inn.

He said the motorcyclist was wearing his helmet.

While troopers investigated the wreck, Howard Drive was closed in the area but has since reopened. The road runs behind Heritage Park.

The Highway Patrol has not released further details about the wreck or chase.
