SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The man known for calling the orders at the iconic Spartanburg restaurant The Beacon Drive-In is in the hospital, according to the restaurant.

Kenny Church runs The Beacon and said Stroble worked his normal Friday through Saturday shift on Aug. 2 and 3 and then fell ill and has been hospitalized ever since.

Stroble's son, Kelvin, said J.C. was found unresponsive on Aug. 4.

J.C. is currently stable and resting comfortably at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, his son said.

Stroble's son said updates on his health will be posted on www.CaringBridge.org/visit/jcstroblethebeacon

Stroble's family has not said why he has been hospitalized but they are asking people to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.

Stroble got a job at the restaurant 56 years ago. He's known as the "call-it" man who takes customer orders and yells instructions to the cooks.

A section of Henry Street, at the John B. White Sr. Boulevard intersection, was officially named for the legendary employee of the restaurant in 2011.

The J.C. Stroble Glaucoma Awareness Foundation is named for Stroble who was diagnosed with glaucoma more than 30 years ago.

On Friday the family of Stroble released the following statement:

"The family of JC Stroble would like to thank those who have expressed such concern and love for their father and famed Beacon barker.  They are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support shown from throughout the Upstate and beyond. While the Stroble family recognizes his notoriety and popularity in both the state and the nation, they are asking for the public and media to respect their privacy and refrain from phone calls and visitation."
