CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

To rub Howard's Rock is a tiger tradition as it sits on a pedestal at the top of the hill of Memorial Stadium at Clemson University.

But police say now the rock is chipped and damaged after Micah Rogers, a Clemson fan, broke the case and hacked away at Howard's Rock.

Police arrested him in June, and on Friday, they arrested 17-year-old Alden Gainey and Micah Rogers' father, Michael Rogers.

According to warrants, Clemson University police say Gainey and Michael Rogers helped in a coverup. They are both charged with conspiracy and obstruction of justice.

"Unfortunately, my role in trying to find the truth has led to these allegations," Michael Rogers said.

Police said Gainey and Michael Rogers lied to them about what they knew, but in an exclusive interview on Friday, Michael Rogers said that's wasn't the case.

"My determination into finding the truth has resulted in me being charged with a crime that I absolutely did not commit," Michael Rogers said.

FOX Carolina learned Michael Rogers is the owner of Michael Rogers Masonry, Inc., and is a Transylvania County School Board member. He's also the former pastor of Dunns Creek Baptist Church in Brevard, NC. He said he resigned in April.

"Through my attorney, I'm happy to continue to work in every way possible to find the truth," Michael Rogers said.

Gainey's family members said they're getting threats and are afraid for Alden Gainey's safety. They say they're following the advice of their lawyer and can't comment on the case even though they want to.

All of the suspects in the case are from North Carolina. Police haven't released a possible motive in the case.
