The man known for calling the orders at The Beacon Drive-In remains in the hospital after a fall and serious brain injury, according to his family.

The family of J.C. Stroble posted an update online Monday that said Stroble is in the hospital after he suffered a severe brain injury following an accidental fall.

"Sunday morning, the family made an incredibly difficult decision to follow his written desires to trust God for his well being, and remove artificial support systems. Presently, he is stable and resting comfortably," according to the post on Stroble's site.

Kenny Church runs The Beacon and said Stroble worked his normal Friday through Saturday shift on Aug. 2 and 3 and then fell ill and has been hospitalized ever since.

Stroble's son, Kelvin, said he was found unresponsive on Aug. 4. He is currently stable and resting comfortably at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, his son said.

J.C. Stroble got a job at the restaurant 56 years ago. He's known as the "call-it" man who takes customer orders and yells instructions to the cooks.

While the family has asked for privacy from calls and visitors, people wanting to leave words of encouragement and get well notes can comment on the CaringBridge website or send them to The Beacon Drive-In at:
