GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville police said they are investigating two robberies at two banks in downtown Greenville that happened only minutes - and blocks - apart.

Lt. Jason Rampey with Greenville police said they were first called to the BB&T Bank on Augusta Street at 11:27 a.m. after a man tried to rob the bank, but left before getting any money.

A man entered the bank and gave a note to the teller demanding money but left the bank and fled in a car before getting any, Rampey said.

Then 14 minutes later, Rampey said police got an alarm call at the Suntrust Bank on Augusta Street, which is about five blocks away.

A man matching the same description from the BB&T went inside, showed a note, got money then left in a car, Rampey said.

He said an officer spotted a car matching the description bank employees gave and pulled the car over in the Cleveland Park area, Rampey said. He said both the driver and passenger were detained.

So far, police have not said if the two detained are considered suspects in either robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
