GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A newly hired Anderson County deputy has resigned on Monday after being arrested in Greenville, according to Sheriff John Skipper.

Heath Evans, 32, Greenville, was arrested at about 3 a.m. on Sunday and was charged with public intoxication and trespass after notice, Skipper said.

The sheriff said the incident happened at Blind Horse Saloon in Greenville, where he was arrested by Greenville police.

Evans was hired in the latter part of June, according to the sheriff.

Evans reported to the sheriff's office Monday morning and resigned, according to Skipper.

When asked about the arrest, Skipper said, "I will not tolerate behavior by any employee that brings discredit to my office or the citizens of Anderson County."
