LANDRUM, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Landrum man has been charged after he reportedly used an ax handle to assault a man, according to the Landrum Police Department.

Kim Fitch, 48, was charged with first-degree assault and battery on Sunday, officers said.

According to the officer's report, the victim and his mother were walking home from their neighbor's house when Fitch tried to block them from crossing the road, after saying he was "going to kill them."

Fitch then followed the victim onto their property and started assaulting him with the ax handle, the report said. The victim fought back, punching Fitch in the face several times and was eventually able to knock him down, the report said. Fitch then left the scene, it said.

Fitch's ex-girlfriend was living at the victim's mother's home, according to the police report. They also reported getting threatening phone calls from Fitch on the day of the attack.
