Jackson County residents are being warned by the sheriff's office about a phone scam.
Deputies said there have been reports of people receiving recorded calls from MedWest Lifeline.
Deputies said the recording says that the service has been paid for and is free. Then it says all that is needed is to set up a time for them to come by and install equipment.
Deputies said these calls are not actually from MedWest Lifeline.
Sheriff Jimmy Ashe said, "If you receive one of these calls do not call them back. You may report the call by calling Jackson County Crime Stoppers at 828-631-1125 or email email@example.com."
