SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said four jail officers have been fired following a  complaint made by an inmate and internal investigation.

Wright would not elaborate much on what led to the officers' firings but said their actions did not coincide with Wright's or the jail's policies.

"The actions of those four people does not represent what 99.9 percent of our officers do at the sheriff's office every day," Wright said.

He went on to say their actions did not coincide with the sheriff's office policies and as soon as the complaint was made, he looked into it.

Wright did not say what the inmate's complaint was, but said the inmate was being processed into the jail on a misdemeanor charge when the incident happened on July 4. He said the complaint was made after the incident and after the inmate was released from jail.

The incident was caught on video, Wright said, but he would not elaborate about what happened. He said he wished he could say everything that happened but cannot because of the ongoing criminal investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division.

When asked if it was a beating or related to racial slur, Wright said no. He did say he could not release the officers or inmate's name because of medical privacy laws and that the inmate was taken for medical treatment by his officers immediately.

When the sheriff's office initially made a statement regarding the incident, they said it involved "an uncooperative inmate" and subsequent internal investigation. Following that investigation, Wright said the officers were fired on Aug. 12 and the incident that took place was now being investigated by the state.

Wright took over leadership of the jail two years ago and some of the fired officers were already employed at the jail when he took over and some had since been hired.
