ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville police hope someone will recognize a man accused of stealing a gun on display at a local store.

Police said on July 18, the man stole the gun from Carolina Guns and Gear on Sweeten Creek Road.

Store employees were distracted when the man walked out with the gun, police said. The police report said the stolen gun was a $470 Ruger pistol.

They said he was seen driving a red Chevy Silverado or similar large-model truck.

He was described as about 5'10" tall, weighed about 220 pounds and is believed to be in his mid-to-late 20s, police said.

Anyone who can identify the man, who was caught on surveillance camera, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050 or the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110.
