SC agency to review contract for credit monitoring

Posted: Updated:

The State Budget and Control Board is reviewing the parameters of a contract to continue credit monitoring for South Carolina taxpayers less than a month after agreeing to the proposal.

The agenda of the special meeting Friday morning doesn't say why the board is reviewing the work it did with almost no discussion July 30.

The proposal passed last month required companies to provide credit monitoring services for the next five years, with an option to reconsider after each year. The General Assembly set aside $10 million for the first year of the new deal.

South Carolina paid $12 million in a no-bid deal for one year of monitoring after the massive hacking incident last year. About 6.4 million taxpayers and businesses had data stolen.
